Roni Gillenson

Roni has 15 years experience providing mental health services to culturally diverse youth, families and adults and working in conjunction with several bay area agencies including schools, outpatient clinics, substance abuse programs, residential and day treatment programs, County Juvenile Probation and County Mental Health.  The bulk of her experience has focused on adolescent issues in school and residential settings and clinical supervision to trainees and interns. Roni holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Feminist Psychology and Multiculturalism.  She also has a private practice in San Francisco seeing adolescents and young adults.

Amoreena is a licensed marriage and family therapist whose experience includes counseling youth and families by providing individual, group, and family therapy. Before coming to ACS she worked in school based programs and residential settings for over 8 years. When Amoreena is not working as a therapist she spends her time as a professional photographer.

Katie holds a masters of arts degree in counseling psychology from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA. Prior to joining ACS in 2008, she was a clinician at Esther B. Clark School (part of Children's Health Council in Palo Alto) providing individual, group and family psychotherapy to special needs children and adolescents. In addition, Katie has over eight years of experience working in public school settings, non-profit agencies and leading substance abuse and parenting groups.She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and has a private practice in Palo Alto. Katie is also the program director for the After-School Counseling Program.

Amy holds a master's degree in social welfare from University of California at Berkeley and became a licensed social worker in 1996. Prior to joining ACS in 2007, she worked at Alameda County for nine years supervising social work interns, as well as providing crisis assessment for teens and wraparound services for at-risk youth. In addition, Amy has been in private practice conducting in home family therapy, individual therapy in schools, and therapy in the community. She is also the mother of twin preschool girls.

    Martha Chan, LMFT, received her MA in Psychology from San Jose State University. Martha worked for ACS for 13 years as the Director of Caravan House, On-Campus Program Director, and Clinical Director of both the On-Campus Counsleing Program and Caravan House. After leaving in 2001 to pursue a successful private practce, Martha has returned to ACS as a site director at Terman Middle School supervising interns who have provided direct services to students and assisting the students' parents in addressing the complexities of adolescence. She previously worked as a Practicum Supervisor at Santa Clara University's Division of Counseling Psychology & Education, as well as a Marriage, Family and Child Counselor at the Santa Clara County Mental Health Department and as a Supervisor and Therapeutic Team Leader for Rehabilitation Mental Health Services in San Jose.

Rom Brafman, Ph.D. is a counseling psychologist who also has a private practice in Palo Alto. He takes a humanistic approach to psychotherapy and focuses on empowering the client. Rom also values the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, especially as they pertain to the healing process.

Carla is a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree in social work from CSU, Fresno.  With more than 9 years of experience before coming to ACS, Carla developed her enthusiasm for working with youth and families while providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy at Kingsview Residential Treatment Center, Merced County Mental Health, and as a family therapist for Juvenile Drug Court.  Additionally, she has experience providing crisis intervention services in the emergency room of a public hospital.  Carla enjoys the outdoors and can often be found hiking northern California trails with her two daughters and husband.

Robyn is the Site Director for Gunn High School. She has over 12 years of experience working in the mental health field. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. Robyn has spent the last 5 years providing mental health services to schools in the Bay Area. In addition, she has extensive experience and training working with at-risk youth and survivors of acute and chronic trama. Robyn also has private practice where she sees adults, youth and families in psychotherapy.

Christina Walker Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist who specializes in psychotherapy with children, adolescents and families. She earned her doctorate in psychology from the University of Denver.  With over ten years of experience, she has worked in clinics, schools and hospitals. Christina approaches psychotherapy in a collaborative and warm manner to understand each client's unique experience. She views psychotherapy as a dynamic and evolving process, much like children and adolescents themselves. Areas of clinical focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, social skills issues, family transitions and parent-child relationship problems.  In addition to working at ACS, she works in private practice in Los Altos.

Brenda brings a long history of advocacy, organizational supervision and non-profit experience to ACS. For over ten years, Brenda has worked with individuals and families, providing life-saving intervention, counseling and support to persons impacted by addiction. Before joining ACS, Brenda was executive director of a licensed residential and outpatient treatment center in San Jose. She is ordained as a non-denominational reverend and is licensed as a spiritual counselor. In her spare time, she facilitates counseling groups with a spiritual approach to recovery. She is a Certified Addictions Counselor through the National Board of Addiction Examiners (NBAE) and a Registered Addictions Specialist (RAS) through the Breining Institute, College for the Advanced Studies of Addictive Disorders. In addition to being the Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program Director, Brenda is also available for community education and public speaking engagements dealing with the prevention of alcohol and drug use.
