Barkhurst retires from Adolescent Counseling Services

After 16 years as the executive director of Adolescent Counseling Services, Sue Barkhurst will retire in June.

Barkhurst developed and implemented the Substance Abuse Treatment Program for teens and families, converted Caravan House from a mixed gender residence to an all girls intensive clinical treatment facility and expanded the On Campus Counseling Program from two middle schools to all five secondary schools in Palo Alto and Menlo Atherton High School.

"What I am most proud o is that I have been able to work with a committed group of volunteers and staff to create a culture within our agency that reflects the compassionate, caring and therapeutic values of the counseling profession."

Sue plans to stay involved with ACS by becoming a member of the Board of Advisors. ACS is a nonprofit agency that provides counseling and substance abuse treatment programs to youth in Santa Clara County.
