Adolescent Counseling Services Receives $5,000 Grant from the Altos Foundation
Palo Alto, California — August 04, 2003 — Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS), a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to the healthy social and emotional development of teens, has received a grant of $5,000 from The Altos Foundation, Inc., Los Altos, Calif., to support ACS in its mission to promote the healthy social and emotional development, through counseling and education, of adolescents, their families and their communities.
“Over the last 15 years, The Altos Foundation has contributed more than $120,000 to ACS. Their support has helped us to improve the lives of thousands of teens in our community,” said Kara Mullen, ACS director of development. “We are grateful for their continuing generosity, which will enable us to serve more than 1,000 teens in the coming year.”
ACS serves the San Francisco Peninsula community through three programs for at-risk teenagers and their family members: Caravan House, a group home for teenage girls who have been physically and emotionally abused; an On-Campus Counseling Program that provides counseling to secondary school students in Palo Alto and Menlo Park; and the Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program that provides intensive outpatient treatment to teens struggling with drug and/or alcohol abuse and also sponsors preventive education in the community.
Community members can get more information about ACS at the agency’s information booth at the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts, August 23-24 on University Avenue in Palo Alto, or can contact ACS directly at 650-424-0852.
