Adolescent Counseling
Services (ACS) has record breaking Spring Sounds Gala
Funds raised will benefit critical programs and services
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS), a community-based nonprofit agency dedicated to the healthy social and emotional development of teens, had another record breaking year at their annual fundraising gala, Spring Sounds, bringing in over $190,000 to support teen counseling. The event, led by honorary chairs, Hal and Iris Korol, was attended by 200 individuals and held at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park on May 3, 2008.
With the music of the Henry M. Gunn Jazz Combo, pianist Harry Wolfson, and the Caribbean-Calypso band Pan Exstasy, the gala embraced the second part of its name and provided many different sounds for the guests to enjoy. The silent auction gave guests the opportunity to bid and out-bid each other on 140 items available, with Matt Backs from the Stokes Auction Group creating a bidding frenzy during the live auction.
During dinner, Dr. Philippe Rey, ACS Executive Director, announced that this Fall, ACS will be expanding its professional and affordable counseling services to include teens and families in the community at large. “The Adolescent Counseling Program will initially start as a pilot project so that ACS can evaluate in real time the need and effectiveness for additional mental health therapy for teens and families in and around the greater Silicon Valley community,” said Rey.
Former Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment (ASAT) Program client, Gene Steagall, who successfully completed the program graced the stage to provide an update on his progress. Still gainfully employed and taking on the responsibility of living on his own, Steagall attributed the ASAT Program to turning his life around and staying sober. It was Steagall’s moving update and the exciting announcement of the Adolescent Counseling Program that triggered a wave of donations, totaling to more than $50,000.
“I would like to thank everyone for their generous and continued support. When kids and families are healthy, it makes our entire community healthy,” said Rey.
