Community Education

Adolescent Counseling Services provides Community Education for parents, teens, and the Latino community. During Community Education Presentations, audience members learn about the issues and challenges facing adolescents, as well as essential skills and knowledge that promote increased communication, trust and genuine understanding between teens and adults.

Esther's Pledge Substance Abuse Prevention Workshops

Thanks to the generosity of Elizabeth and Mark Schar, ACS is proud to offer FREE monthly substance abuse prevention workshops to teens and families in the Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. These workshops will cover warning signs, education, how to talk to your kids, and steps for getting help.

Young Adults ( ages 15-21)
Parents and Teens Welcome!
1st Thursday of every month
6:00-7:30 p.m.

Youth (ages 10-14)
Parents and Youth Welcome
3rd Thursday of every month
6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Starting January 17th, 2013

All Workshops are held at Palo Alto Family YMCA

Substance Abuse Info Line (SAIL)

Call (650) 384-3094

SAIL is offered Monday through Friday from 5pm to 7pm
as a substance abuse information, resource, and referral line. It is staffed daily by trained counselors to answer all of your substance abuse related questions.

Parent Education

This past year, Executive Director Philippe Rey, Psy.D. and other therapists of ACS led Community Education Presentations for over 470 adults from local companies, schools and PTAs. Among the topics covered were:

  • Developmental Issues in Adolescence
  • Sex, Drugs and Rock ’n’ Roll - Communication with your teen on difficult topics
  • Depression and Suicide
  • A Day in the Life of a Middle School Student
  • How to Communicate with Your Teen
  • Spirituality and Family
  • Understanding School Bullying
Teen Education

Among the education topics covered at area middle and high schools were:

Bilingual Parent & Teen Education

Over the years, our therapists have also provided a number of parent education presentations on issues specific to the Latino community:

  • Immigration and Documentation Issues
  • Parent Skills and Strategies with Adolescents
