POSITION OVERVIEW:
Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) was founded in 1975 and its mission is to empower youth in our community to find their way through social-emotional support and by building safe, accepting communities. To achieve this, ACS operates four programs serving 10-25 year olds in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties: the On-Campus Counseling Program, providing free counseling on-campus at partner secondary schools; the Outlet Program, providing support, education, leadership development, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ youth; the Adolescent Substance Addiction Treatment Program, providing assessment, outpatient treatment, aftercare, and education; and the Community Counseling Program, providing affordable individual and family counseling during the afternoon and evening hours.
ACS is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and creative leader as ACS’ next Director of Philanthropy and Marketing. The Philanthropy and Marketing Director is a senior position and leads ACS’ development and marketing efforts. The Philanthropy & Marketing Director is critical to successfully achieving agency multi-year fundraising and marketing goals, as well as providing the infrastructure for donor cultivation and community engagement. This position reports to the Executive Director. This position works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and hosts the Fund Development Committee.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising
- In partnership with the Executive Director, develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy including major gifts, planned giving, institutional giving, and annual campaigns to grow contributed revenue and donor engagement year orver year.
- Develop and manage an annual fundraising plan and calendar including donor cultivation, stewardship, fundraising appeals, awareness initiatives, and signature events.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, major donors, institutional funders, corporate partners, and prospective supporters.
- Develop and oversee implementation of a comprehensive, relationship-based donor stewardship program using the Strength Through Support Model to deepen donor relationships and inspire increased giving.
- Partner with the Executive Director, Board Chair, and Board members to strengthen the Board’s capacity in donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director and as the primary staff liaison to the Board’s Fund Development Committee.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy among staff and Board members, supporting engagement in fundraising and meaningful donor engagement.
- Plan and coordinate logistics for fundraising, cultivation, and awareness events, including major events such as Out to Eat, Spring for Support, and donor appreciation gatherings.
- Plan and execute multi-channel fundraising campaigns including direct mail, email, online, and social media appeals.
- Manage donor database operations including gift processing, data entry, reporting, moves management, and maintaining data integrity.
- Oversee donor acknowledgement processes, tax receipts, and stewardship communications.
- Produce fundraising reports for the Executive Director and coordinate with finance staff to ensure accurate reconciliation between donor database and financial records.
- Recruit, supervise, and collaborate with development volunteers, interns, and consultants supporting fundraising initiatives.
Marketing
- Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications strategy to increase awareness of the organization’s mission, programs, and impact.
- Produce and oversee key organizational communications including newsletters, fundraising appeals, the annual report, press releases, and marketing collateral.
- Maintain and update the organization’s website and ensure consistent, engaging digital content.
- Manage the organization’s social media presence and digital communications, including platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and the ACS Parent Blog.
- Develop marketing materials to support fundraising campaigns, community outreach, and program visibility.
- Build relationships with local media, community partners, and key stakeholders to increase public awareness of programs and services.
- Collaborate with program leadership to share program outcomes, impact stories, and engagement opportunities that support fundraising and communications.
- Lead and steward ACS’ brand identity across the organization, overseeing the development of all communications, including newsletters, fundraising appeals, press materials, website content, and marketing collateral.
- Manage the inventory, production, and distribution of marketing materials, ensuring ACS staff have timely access to resources both onsite and across satellite locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years of development, fundraising, marketing, and/or public relations experience
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in GSuite and Microsoft Office applications
- Experience working in database environments, such as Bloomerang, QGiv, or Raiser’s Edge, preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a highly collegial and collaborative manner
- Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with staff, the public, and volunteers in an effective, professional, confidential and tactful manner
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Sociology, or other related field preferred
- Must have a passion for the mission and values of Adolescent Counseling Services
