Adolescent Counseling Services Appoints New Executive Director as Community Mental Health Needs Increase

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS), a nonprofit mental health organization celebrating 50 years of service to communities across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, announced the appointment of Dr. Douglas Styles as its new Executive Director, effective January 1, 2026.

Dr. Styles brings more than 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience, with a career dedicated to supporting adolescents, young adults, and families. He succeeds Dr. Philippe Rey, who stepped down after more than two decades of leadership. Under Dr. Rey’s guidance, ACS expanded its reach into San Mateo County and adopted multiple new programs for teens, including the Adolescent Substance Addiction Treatment Program and Outlet, ACS’ LGBTQIA+ support program.

The leadership transition comes at a critical time for youth mental health services in the region. As demand for care continues to rise and several peer organizations have closed, ACS remains one of the few nonprofits providing accessible, affordable mental health services to local youth.

In addition to delivering direct services, ACS plays a vital role in training the next generation of mental health professionals in the Bay Area. Each year, the organization welcomes approximately 45 clinical interns through its highly regarded clinical training program, which is currently accepting applications. Interns receive specialized training in areas such as adolescent mental health, substance addiction treatment, and LGBTQIA+ support. In recognition of Dr. Rey’s vision to train the therapists of the future, the training institute has been renamed the Dr. Philippe Rey Institute of Psychotherapy and Training.

“I am honored to step into this role at such an important moment for the organization,” said Dr. Styles. “ACS has a long history of supporting youth, adapting to change, and finding creative solutions to meet the evolving needs of young people. I look forward to building on that legacy and exploring new ways to ensure we are reaching young people where they need us most.”

Under Dr. Styles’ leadership, ACS will continue to strengthen mental health services for local youth, expand clinical training opportunities, and advance mental wellness throughout the community.

Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) exists to support the wellbeing of all teens, tweens, and young adults in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Trained professionals facilitate on-campus and after-school counseling, substance addiction treatment, LGBTQIA+ support services, and community education programs.  Established in 1975, ACS support youth to overcome obstacles, develop confidence and be empowered to build happy, healthy futures.
